# 37

In holding his feet to the fire
they also held a mistaken desire
he would tell them all he knew
at least that was what surely
they thought to be the true

but way down, deep down within
he merely stifled a warrior's grin
knowing he would come through it all
as the fires out side burned the very
last remains of the perpetual despots fall

they held him longer than they should
knowing he was the last symbol of good
in a land throughout historic times shamed
by oh so cruel acts a-plenty
they/those who torture and maim

and to another almost end
walks our warrior friend
on limbs twisted and blistered
down the road of the powerful
knowing yet once again they missed it
